Inspiration Series
I have been surrounded by a group of strong, compassionate and wise women who have set the example, led me and walked with me in my art and my life. The collections are inspired by and dedicated to these women, who marvelously meld a passion for tradition with fierce modernity.
The works in the Inspiration Series span a variety of techniques both self taught and learned from the foremost instructors and innovators in the fine art of fused glass, combined and adapted to create my vision.
Lillian's Lace
My husband’s grandmother hand tatted the lace I’ve used as a model for the Lillian’s Lace pieces. Lillian, a young widow in Alabama with four children, a teacher who became a college administrator, led a breakaway group that started an all inclusive Baptist Congregation after the SBC voted to maintain segregated congregations. Lillian is an inspiration for all.
Henny's Roses
Nana was a “working mom” before there was such a thing and therefore, of course a working grandmother. She was an administrative assistant for the US Department of Fisheries and Wildlife for twenty-five years, inspiring my love of wildlife and all animals as well as setting an example of a “pre-modern” working woman.
Julie
A talented photographer with a quirky sense of humor, Julie continually inspired me with her wisdom, kindness, and creativity. This collection draws on art she created and art that I created for her. When her spirit calls to me in a particular way, this is what happens!
Jillian
A tribute to my inspiring daughter who loved to play dress up, relishing her grandmother’s traditional style. Jillian continues her passion for theater as an actress, director and playwright. She is also an amazing mother of our two grandsons who she is raising with her husband to be fierce feminists. An everyday inspiration.
Lily's Iris
My inspiring grandmother Lily (MaLil) immigrated from Poland to Montreal at the age of 17 and two years later to The States. She became the matriarch of a close knit family with whom she shared her Jewish traditions and stories of her childhood. She led my grandfather in multiple successful business endeavors. Irises from her home in Maryland still bloom in my yard in New Hope.
